RS Pro Glassfibre Type K Exposed Welded Tip Thermocouples

From RS Pro a range of type K thermocouple temperature sensors with a tolerance to ANSI MC96.1 class 2 and colour code to ANSI NC96.1. These thermocouple temperature sensors have durable construction with glass fibre insulation and a welded exposed junction for a fast response time. One end of the thermocouple is terminated with a miniature flat pin plug that can be rewired for a quick and easy connection.

How does a Thermocouple Work?

A thermocouple is a sensor used to measure temperature in a range of different processes and consists of two wire legs made from different metals joined together at their two ends to form two junctions. The hot, or measuring junction is connected to the body whose temperature is going to be measured. The cold junction or reference junction is connected to a body of known temperature. When the measuring junction is placed on something hot a voltage or potential difference between this and the reference junction occurs. This voltage can then be converted into a temperature measurement using thermocouple reference tables. This process is also known as the Seebeck Effect

What is a Welded Exposed Junction?

A welded exposed junction is where the thermocouple wires are welded together but are not surrounded by the outer sheath. The ends of the wire are directly inserted into the process. This means the thermocouple has a high sensitivity and response time. Welded exposed junctions are more prone to corrosion and are recommended for measuring flowing or static non-corrosive gas temperatures

Glassfibre wire insulation is flexible with a good temperature range but does not prevent the ingress of fluids

Key Features and Benefits

• Welded, exposed junction for fast response times
• Glassfibre insulated cable for flexibility and a wide temperature range
• Tolerance to ANSI MC96.1 Class 2
• Colour code to ANSI MC96.1
• Flat pin plug termination for quick and easy termination
• Temperature range of -50 to +350°C (short periods up to 400°C)

Applications

These exposed junction wire thermocouples are Ideal for test and development applications. The Type K Thermocouple (Nickel-Chromium / Nickel-Alumel) is the most common type of thermocouple and is both accurate and flexible and reliable with a wide temperature range of -200 to 1100°C. Typical applications include thermometers, engines, oil heaters, boilers and in the food industry

Standards

Tolerance to ANSI MC96.1 Class 2
Colour code to ANSI MC96.1
