RS PRO H05VVH8-F Harmonised Coiled PVC Insulated Harmonised Mains Cable
From RS PRO a high-quality medium duty H05VVH8-F extendable coiled harmonised mains power cable with PVC insulation and a PVC jacket. This flexible cable has a voltage rating of 300 to 500 V and is designed for use in medium duty domestic and light industrial appliances
What is Mains Cable?
A mains power cable connects an appliance to a mains electricity supply through the use of a wall socket or an extension lead which will then be plugged into a mains supply
Cable Construction
This flexible electrical power cable consists of 3 cores made up of fine stranded copper conductors or wires. Each individual core is surrounded by colour coded PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulation for easy identification of the wires. All the cores are then moulded into a coiled outer PVC a sheath or jacket.
What Does H05VVH8-F Mean?
H05VVH8-F mains power cable is a type of harmonised cable which means it belongs to the Harmonised Reference System and conforms to the European Harmonisation Standard. This purpose of this standard is to improve the standards and quality of cables across Europe to ensure the trade of a common standard product.
H05VVH8-F is the code for this harmonised power cable which breaks down into the following:
H = Harmonised
05 = 300V / 500V voltage rating
V = PVC insulation
V = PVC sheath
H8 = Extensible Lead
F = Flexible copper conductors
Features and Benefits
This PVC insulated coiled mains power cable has the following benefits:
Low cost
Flexibility due to stranded cores and PVC sheath
PVC has excellent insulation properties, is resistant to oil and makes the cable stable, robust and durable
Coiled or spiral design allows the cable to extend when needed and offers space saving when not in use
Coiled design less prone to tangling than straight cables
Where are These Cables Used?
PVC coiled insulated mains cables are used for wiring in small to medium size appliances found in domestic, commercial and light industrial premises. This electrical mains cable should be used for wiring appliances that are indoors or in a covered, dry or humid area and is best used where the potential for mechanical stresses and mechanical damage is low. This cable can only be used with cooking and heating equipment if the cable does not come into direct contact with the hot parts of the equipment or with any other heat source. Applications include the following:
Computer and office equipment
Telephones
Kitchen utensils
Mobile household appliances such as hairdryers
Household lamps and lighting
Illuminated advertising medium
